PERKASIE BOROUGH SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE CANCELLED FOR 2020

With the health of players and the general community in mind, Perkasie Borough Parks and Recreation Department has made the difficult decision to cancel their Summer Basketball League for 2020. The decision has been made in accordance with the guidance of public health and medical professionals to discourage and limit large gatherings in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation.

“We understand and share the disappointment of players, coaches and fans who will not be able to participate in this league,” Perkasie Parks and Recreation Director Megan Prusienski said. “Regrettably, the information and recommendations presented to us from public health authorities and medical professionals have convinced us that this is the most prudent decision.”

The Department reluctantly made the announcement after waiting for clearer guidance from State and County officials. Basketball, because of its high level of physical interaction, is considered higher risk than other lower contact sports and activities, many of which will proceed this year, albeit with Covid-19 restrictions and mitigations in place.

“We wish everyone a healthy summer and hope to return in 2021 with a full league” added Prusienski.

At this time, the Borough’s basketball courts at 2nd Street in Perkasie will remain open for public use.
